The Northaw Mentoring Programme was an extremely successful and refreshing experience. It allowed us all to gain new skills: time management, communication, teamwork and independence. Even though there were ups and downs, it was amazing to be a part of the programme and we will cherish it forever.

We had previously gone to Northaw Primary School to deliver a presentation on being an upstander, which was a very fun experience, and now it was their turn to come to Q for a session on the transition from Primary to Secondary School.

As soon as they arrived, we went to lunch so that we could catch up and talk to the Year 6 pupils. We had an incredible time talking to the students, as they were very sociable and entertaining. After lunch, we then proceeded to give them a tour of the school, during which we discovered some of the secret talents of the Northaw students. They were very excited to see our facilities and enjoyed walking around the school.

After the tour, we then proceeded to go to our classroom to give them a presentation. During the presentation, we gave them advice and words of encouragement, as well as stories of our own personal experiences, about the move to secondary school. They asked us many insightful questions and enthusiastically took part in all of the activities. We ended with a game and said our goodbyes as they boarded the bus to take them home.

Overall, this was a fantastic experience that we would love to be do again. In addition to this, we adored the children as they were lovely and kind, thus making the experience even more memorable. We would like to thank Northaw Primary School for letting us visit and trusting us with their pupils.

MISS ANNA SUTTON, TEACHER OF SPANISH, writes:

Our Year 9 pupils were admirable ambassadors for Q who worked well in a team, demonstrated creativity and showed courage and kindness. If you are in Year 8 and think that that sounds like you, keep an eye out for your opportunity to take part next year!
