Sensational Summer Concert on Trew Lawn

Monday 8 July 2024

We brought the musical year to a very stylish end on Tuesday 2 July, with a delightful Summer Concert held in the marquee on Trew Lawn.

There was tremendous participation from pupils of all ages, and a real festival atmosphere was created. Year 7 singer-songwriters performed their own compositions on the theme of summer, the Staff Choir presented a mash-up of ‘Summertime’ and ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’, there was a raucous live DJ set, and the whole company finale performance of ‘Lovely Day’ had the audience singing along in enthusiastic harmony.

Along the way we also enjoyed the Herbie Hancock classic ‘Watermelon Man’, a beautiful rendition of the theme from La Califfa by Ennio Morricone, covers of songs by The Cure and Amy Winehouse by a very talented Q Senior Band, and the premiere of ‘An Irish Blessing’, composed by Queenswood’s Director of Music, Elle Jackson.

Proceeds from the sale of tickets, which amounted to over £400, were donated to the charity Orchestras for All, who campaign for all young people to have access to the joy of orchestral music-making, regardless of the daily challenges they may be facing. Their orchestra is a completely inclusive, mixed ability youth orchestra which welcomes 100 young musicians from across the country that face barriers to making music.
