A Parisian Adventure for Students of Art and French

Friday 8 November 2024

EMILY H, YEAR 13

On 29 October, Queenswood’s Art and French students travelled to central Paris for a four-day cultural trip.

After arriving by Eurostar we promptly began with our first gallery visit to the Musée d’Art Moderne, where we saw a vast array of modern artworks ranging in style and subject matter. This was followed by a trip up the Montparnasse Tower to enjoy the spectacular views across the Paris skyline at night to end our first day.

The following morning, we travelled to the Musée de l’Orangerie where Monet’s Water Lilies were displayed; seeing this in person was truly an unforgettable sight. We then continued to the Musée d’Orsay to view a range of impressionist and post-impressionist pieces. Finally we headed to the last gallery of the day, the Louvre, where iconic pieces such as Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo are on display. To end, we went to a local bowling alley, which was great fun – a good end to a busy day.

The third day was more focused on seeing famous sights away from galleries and museums. We started with a shopping trip at the beautiful Galeries Lafayette, followed by a boat trip on the Seine offering great views through the city centre. After this there was more shopping in a local retail centre and a thrilling ascent up the Eiffel Tower, where we enjoyed the panoramic viewers of the city at night.

Our final day concluded with a visit to the Sacre-Coeur Basilica, where we climbed 300 steps up to the dome, providing a beautiful view over the city. We then headed home after a full packed trip, filled with great food, views, memories and of course, artwork!
