Politics Students in Parliament

HATTY S, YEAR 12
On Monday 20 January, the Year 12 Politics and Year 10 Global Perspectives students went to visit the Houses of Parliament.
We entered and had our coats and bags go through an X-ray machine before we could begin the tour. The tour guide took us through Victoria tower leading to the robing room. The rooms were covered in paintings of previous monarchs and battles.
We then visited the House of Lords and the House of Commons, which were much smaller than we expected. The tour of Parliament was very interesting, seeing the place where law making happens.
Afterwards, we had a workshop on petitions, where we came up with our own petition for a specific public service. For example, my group had healthcare and we designed a petition arguing that the government should fund a certain number of medical students' school bills.
After the workshop we had a visit from the Welwyn and Hatfield local MP Andrew Lewin. He answered some of our questions and gave a valuable insight to his experience in government as he recently joined after the 2024 election. We really enjoyed meeting him and found the trip an enjoyable experience.
