Mara’s Journey to Fencing Triumph
Friday 7 February 2025
Mara B (Year 9), who has been studying temporarily at Queenswood since September, has enjoyed some outstanding achievements in fencing.
From an early age, Mara showed a passion for physical activity. She built a strong athletic foundation through gymnastics and trampolining but eventually turned to sabre fencing after her brother introduced her to the sport. Her prior experience helped her quickly master complex movements, earning her a place in the Rhineland-Palatinate squad.
By 2024, Mara ranked among the top 10 U15 fencers in Germany, securing a spot in the U15 young squad and ranking within the top 20 in U17. Her success requires intensive training four to five times a week and regular competition participation. In December 2024, Mara and the Mainzer sabre fencing team won gold at the German Championships, becoming national champions.
Fencing demands speed, strategy, and resilience – skills Mara continues to develop, meeting athletes worldwide and building lifelong friendships through her dedication to the sport.
It has been a pleasure to welcome Mara to Queenswood and we wish her all the best as she returns to Germany this month.
