Junior Academic Scholars: Swiss Alpine Culture and Murder Mysteries
Friday 14 February 2025
OLUWATO B, YEAR 9
In the Academic Scholars’ meeting on Tuesday 11 February, Liv R and Izzy P gave their presentations.
Liv gave her presentation about Swiss Alpine culture, and her experience on her trip to Switzerland. She talked about the history of Switzerland and how it came to be, skiing and Swiss cuisine. She also informed us about the varying languages in Switzerland, such as German, French and Italian. There is also a language in Switzerland called Romansh, which they are trying to keep alive.
Izzy’s presentation was titled ‘Why are humans drawn to murder mysteries?’ in which she told us some of her favourite murder mysteries. We were also enlightened upon the fact that many people like murder stories because of the satisfaction that we get from justice being executed. She also gave us some facts about murder mysteries, for example, did you know that And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie is one of the most best selling books of all time? Finally, she told us that 85% of murder and crime stories’ readers tend to be women!
In conclusion, we listened to two very fascinating presentations and it was a great way to end the day.
