Junior Academic Scholars: Supernovae; The Future of Housing
Saturday 8 March 2025
JULIETTE H, YEAR 8
This week in the Junior Academic Scholars meeting we listened to two fantastic presentations delivered by Paisley C and Isabella N.
The first presentation was given by Paisley and the theme of her presentation was Astronomy. We learned about the life cycle of a star (from nebulae to red supergiant stars), supernovae and black holes. Paisley talked about interesting topics such as exoplanets and dark matter and other things that we, as humans, do not have very much knowledge about. It made us think about how vast and how much there is to discover beyond our planet.
Isabella’s presentation was based on her opening question: More houses or nature? She discussed the positive and negative aspects of having less green land but she also reminded us that our populations are still in need of more houses. She continuously reminded us of the pros and cons and it was a great presentation to listen to.
After we finished the presentations we discussed possible activities and suggestions about future topics we could cover in our Academic Scholar meetings. We had lots of ideas and are looking forward to our meetings to come.
