Inter-House Debating: Victory for Waller
Friday 21 March 2025
The final of the Inter-House Debating Competition, held in the Chapel on Friday 21 March, was an extremely impressive display of rhetorical skill.
The motion was ‘This House believes that social media is a force for good’, a perennially topical subject that provoked impassioned and well-reasoned arguments on both sides.
Proposing the motion were Hartley (Sahi K, Year 10 and Mahi K, Year 12) and Clapham North (Lily H, Year 12 and Oli M, Year 7). They faced opposition from Waller (Issy N, Year 11 and Isla M, Year 10) and Clapham South (Delight O, Year 10 and Violet R, Year 11).
The judges had a very difficult decision in choosing a winner, but in the end Waller just edged it. Issy N was awarded the overall prize for her performance. We would also like to make special mention of Oli M. Not only was she the youngest participant, but she conducted the entire debate in her second language – an outstanding achievement.
Many congratulations to everyone who took part – you set a very high standard for next year!
