Amina selected for University of Miami Dance Team
Thursday 6 May 2021
Many congratulations to Amina M (Year 13), who has been selected to join the prestigious University of Miami Dance Team.
She won her place in the elite 12-strong troupe thanks to a superb video audition inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, which you can watch below.
Amina writes:
‘Everyone has that one thing in their life, without which they simply do not feel whole. For me, it has always been dance.
I grew up always referring to dance as my escape and a way of telling my story. As with all sports, taking the “dancer route” is not the smoothest option, and it will only get more complex for me, but this form of art has taught me the importance of resilience and pushing through despite the hiccups on the road. Regardless of how much you want to give up, you pick yourself back up and fight for it if you genuinely love what you do.
I hope to take the skills learnt and grow with them as I embark on a new journey at University, where I have been selected to be a part of the selective dance team of 12 and will be representing the Miami Hurricanes football team as well as dancing at occasions such as the Super Bowl.
I am excited to be a part of such a highly respected dance team, The Hurricanettes, and am beyond grateful for the vast array of opportunities yet to come.’
