GSA Creative Writing Award 2023

Thursday 11 May 2023

Year 7 girls have been inspired by the Girls Schools Association poetry competition to ‘shine a light on their friendships. From BFFs to childhood alliances their work will showcase the social and emotional lives of many girls today, and pay tribute to the transformative power of their friendships.’

There have been a range of beautiful poems entered this year and we are excited to see if any of our entries will be successful. Here are some examples of the fantastic work that has been produced by our very talented Year 7 poets:

My Best Friend

by Alexandra H

My best friend is like a star that twinkles and glows,
Or maybe like an ocean that glistens and flows.
She is one in a million,
Or even a trillion.
My best friend is like a bright light,
To guide me alone at night.
My best friend is the one I can always talk to,
Because I know you will always talk true.
In troubled times,
You ease my mind,
And everything you do is kind.
My best friend will make anything happen,
Even clear a path through the densest of bracken.
My best friend I can always rely on,
She is the one that keeps me strong.
My best friend is like a treasure,
That I will always keep forever.

The ABCs of Friendship

by Sophia E

Always be honest
Be there when they need you
Cheer them on
Don't look for their faults
Every chance you get, call!
Forgive them
Get together often
Have faith in them
Include them
Just listen
Know their dreams
Love them unconditionally
Make them feel special
Never forget them
Offer to help
Praise them honestly
Quietly disagree
Rescue them often
Say you're sorry
Talk frequently
Use good judgment
Vote for them
Wish them good luck
X-ray yourself first
Your words count
Zip your mouth when necessary

Now I know my f-r-i-e-n-d-s will stick by me until the end!
