Friday 11 March 2022
MR LAMING, HEAD OF COMPUTER SCIENCE
Last month many of our talented computer scientists took part in the Oxford University Computing Challenge, which is exclusively for students who achieved the top 10% of results in the country in the Bebras challenge. We had two Year 7 students, five Year 9 and also a Year 13 student who qualified directly. Our excellent Year 12 Computer Science students also took part in the tasks and entered the challenge.
The Year 12 and 13 tasks involved coding complex solutions in Python, as they were in the Elite level challenge. The Year 7 and 9 Students completed the Junior and Intermediate level tasks making use of the Blockly programming language to devise challenging algorithms to solve problems such as maze navigation.
Congratulations to Alice B and Isabella S (Year 7), Anya K, Emily H, Arabella L, Mahi K and Sophie C (Year 9), Sophia M, Abby S, Chenaya H and Adeitura A (Year 12) and Imogen F (Year 13) who all received certificates of participation.
You can see some examples of the challenges set below.
