Indie – A TREW Friend

Tuesday 14 December 2021

GEORGIE I (YEAR 12)

I’ve been in Trew for two years now. But Year 12 has been completely different: not only have we had the fantastic addition of our boarding mums Miss Yaffe and Ms P, but we now have Indie – a loveable, slightly insane husky flat coat retriever.

Indie is training to be an emotional support dog. The Sixth Form pupils in Trew certainly need as much emotional support as we can get so she has been put to great use. I initially didn't think that Indie would make that much of a change to our boarding lives. I anticipated we would see her once a week for five minutes or spot her going on a walk. But I was very wrong. She is a familiar face and a source of comfort for all of us.

There have been times we have all felt overwhelmed or anxious and a cuddle with Indie tends to make it all a little bit better. According to Medivet, owning a dog can help to alleviate stress and anxiety and pet owners are less likely to have depression.

Indie’s brother ‘Toggle’ occasionally joins us in Trew – and if we thought Indie was nuts she is nothing compared to her brother! Our hands are full on those nights and we all enjoy walking and entertaining our two puppies, however we don’t enjoy the expected ‘accidents’ in the house!

That said, we wouldn’t want it any other way and we love having a canine sister in Trew!
