Pupil Voice: Autumn 2024 Food Committee – You Said, We Did!

Thursday 7 November 2024

Pupils have submitted their comments and suggestions about the offering at breakfast, break, lunch and supper via the Food Council, and the Catering Department have responded

We’d like more fajitas, bagels, brownies, spicy fries and Asian crispy beef.
We did:
Most of these will come back on to the menu. Bagels are generally more suited to the summer menu. Crispy beef will be coming back.

You said:
I like the steak but would like to be able to have it cooked to different preferences.
We did:
Chef is on his own on Friday night so cannot cook to order. Chef will generally cook for the majority. If you like your steak well done or rare then you can request and Chef will do it for you.

You said:
We’d like more panini.
We did:
Panini will be on the next menu.

You said:
We like chicken curry.
We did:
Thank you, good feedback. We had this from the last meeting and hopefully you have noticed that we have increased the amount of curries on the menu. We will do the same when the menus change.

You said:
We like the pasta bar and pizza bar but would like more pasta.
We did:
We will keep the pasta bar, but have to make room for other items. The staples like pasta bar, roast dinner and fish Fridays will stay. Pasta bar features twice in every three week period.

You said:
Fish Friday is not popular.
We did:
Fish is popular and on a Friday there is more variety as we have three types of pastries. We also have chicken, gammon and hot dogs.

You said:
We liked the square pizzas.
We did:
Square pizza is on the evening menu.

You said:
We would like more Eastern European dishes.
We did:
We could look at doing a special menu for a day or at a weekend. Please provide us with some ideas of the type of food you would like and we can talk to the chefs.

You said:
Some people prefer thicker noodles for the ramen and don’t really like the really thin noodles. Bao buns are popular.
We did:
Ramen bar is extremely popular and this may just be preference. We will look at what we can get in and, where we can, give other options for noodles.

You said:
We’d like more hot snacks instead of cold.
We did:
We have two days of hot snacks and a mixture of food items. We will look to see if we can increase.

You said:
In the vegan selection there are too many beans, black beans, lentils, etc. We’d like more Quorn.
We did:
In the last meeting we were told that there was too much Quorn so this was replaced with beans and lentils. However, we can look at more Quorn and tofu dishes for the next menu.

You said:
We’d like more options of greens, salad and vegetables for breakfast.
We did:
This is not common in the UK – more of a European menu concept. There are lots of options for breakfast. We will look at this for weekend boarders.
