Queenswood Students in Botswana

Friday 15 July 2016

13 girls spent the first part of their summer holidays onQueenswood’s inaugural trip to Botswana. Based at Maru-a-Pula School,
Botswana’s top independent school, they took part in community service projects
and travelled to places of local interest learning about Botswana and its
culture.

Before returning home the girls spent two nights at
Mosetlha Bush Camp in Madikwe Game Reserve, just over the border in South
Africa. At Mosetlha the girls had a genuine experience of wild Africa and were
fortunate to see up close four of the ‘Big Five’.

The girls thoroughly enjoyed the trip – their highlights
were a visit to an orphanage and community centre in Gomodubu village where
they helped with a community service project initiated by Maru-a-Pula students,
and the visit to Mosetlha.

The trip was led by Jeremy and Helen Long, Clapham North
Houseparents, who previously worked at
Maru-a-Pula for 11 years. They intend to develop further links between
Queenswood and Maru-a-Pula, which might include student exchanges.
