1st XI demolish opposition in U18 East Preliminary Round
Monday 11 November 2013
Report by Meg Crowson
After becoming County Champions and qualifying for the East Prelims in October, the Queenswood 1st XI have been training hard to prepare for this all-important tournament. |
After all the preparation, we arrived at UEA pumped and ready to go. In previous years, Queenswood has always got off
to a slow start in the first match, but that certainly did not happen this year
– we dominated the entire game against Sharnbrook Upper, with goals from Meg
Crowson, Naomi Coulson, Amy Lynn and Alice Wills leading us to a 7-0 victory.
Our second match was against The Perse. It was a tougher game and a
bigger challenge for us, but everyone stepped up and Meg Crowson scored
Queenswood’s first goal from a penalty corner. Soon after, Amy Lynn scored our
second goal and despite trying hard, the Perse could not put more than one goal
passed our solid defence. The game finished with a 3-1 win after another goal
from Meg Crowson.
Our final group game was against Norwich and was again
a harder match, but they couldn’t cope with the intensity and pace of the
Queenswood team and we won 3-1 with goals from Sarah Hills, Naomi Coulson and
Meg Crowson. These results placed us top of our group and meant we played the
runners up from the other group, Tonbridge Wells.
This was set to be our
hardest game of the day and was a must win match, if we were going to qualify
for the East Finals. We went out hard and set the tone for the game and the
Tonbridge side could not keep up. Queenswood scored several goals in quick
succession and despite scoring one goal, Tonbridge Wells could not put any more
passed goalkeeper Victoria F.ishpool. The match finished with a 6-1 victory for
Queenswood with goals from Meg Crowson, Sarah Hills and Naomi Coulson, securing
us a place in the East Finals on 26 November!
