Thursday 16 March saw Queenswood’s 1st and 2nd XI play their last Hockey of the season – and for our Upper Sixth, the final games of their Queenswood Hockey careers – in the U19 County Cup finals.

The teams faced each other in the semi-final, which was a great game. Although the 2nd XI defended admirably they could not match the skill and determination of the 1st team, who scored some impressive goals, including a hat-trick for Olivia Baines.

The 1st XI faced Presdales in a tough final. Presdales had some experienced players and were able to break down Queenswood’s attack. At half time, despite Q’s greater possession, the score was 0-0. The team came back at half time to take control, winning 3-0 thanks to an impressive hat-trick from Maddy Davies. Maddy usually plays in defence but due to injury was ‘taking it easy’ upfront! A special mention must go to our Upper Sixth leavers Amelia Brown, Isobel Beynon, Olivia Baines, Maddy Davies and captain Lucy Fishpool, who have shown great commitment to Queenswood Hockey.

The girls remaining are now preparing for their Tour to South Africa in July. Pre-season this year is also very exciting: they will be joined by new Hockey Scholar England U18 Jordan Homann for a training camp at Loughborough University.
