A bumper week for Queenswood Badminton

Friday 4 December 2015

The first week of December 2015 saw some outstanding successes for Queenswood on the Badminton court.

On Tuesday 1 December, the U14s and U16s took part in the County Round of the National Schools Badminton competition, representing the District of Welwyn and Hatfield.

Both teams reached the semi-finals. Unfortunately the U14s lost the semi but went on to win the 3rd/4th play-off and claim the bronze medal. Our U16s beat Presdales and are County champions. They will go on to represent Hertfordshire at the Regional finals next term and play for a place at the National finals.

This will be Queenswood’s third year in a row at Badminton regionals and our 9th regional sports final of 2015!

On Thursday 3, our top four badminton players, Natalie So, Gretchen Kwong, Lia Di Gesaro and Helen Cheung, took part in the Elite Doubles Tournament at Royal Masonic School.

This tournament involves all the schools who compete in the Herts and Middlesex league sending their strongest two doubles pairs.

Natalie, our school Badminton captain, and Gretchen played some very impressive Badminton defeating some strong pairs to reach the final.

In a very close match they just missed out but are delighted to be the runners-up. Lia and Helen also did very well being placed 5th overall. The U18s, U16s and U15s are also unbeaten in the league at the midway point of the season.
