Activity Week – Wellbeing Workshops
Wednesday 29 June 2016
On Tuesday 21 June, Year 10 had an afternoon of activitiesdesigned to promote wellbeing. There was a choice of 5 different activities,
including yoga, gardening and workshops on ‘How to be a Good Friend’, ‘How to
Deal with Love and Heartbreak’, and ‘How to be Part of a Community’.
The workshop
on friendship was my favourite, as it was led by sixth-formers, Issy and Aoife,
who made it extremely fun! We took part in games that tested how well you know
your friend, and discussed key aspects of being a good friend.
Yoga was the
most relaxing activity of the day. The session was instructed by Dr Bird, and
she taught us many different poses to help reduce stress and unwind. We got to
learn the different names of all these poses, as well as which part of the body
they were helping to relax.
The community workshops taught us how to plan
various events, including prom, charity fairs and street parties. We were
taught why being part of a community is important, and how it can improve your
happiness. The girls who took part in the gardening activity were shown how to
grow a number of plants, and felt that this was an interesting way to maintain
wellbeing.
In the workshop on ‘Love and Heartbreak’, the girls were taught
different ways to deal with situations that might arise in relationships.
Overall it was a very interesting and fun afternoon, and we learnt a range of
new skills and life lessons that will come in handy as we get older.
