Activity Week – Year 7 QUEST Day
Tuesday 28 June 2016
During Activity Week, Year 7 spent the day learning about’global awareness’ and the environment around them. A representative from the
Methodist Schools World Aims group was coming to run the day, but unfortunately
she was taken ill at the last minute. Luckily Miss Walton, Assistant House
Parent of Stamp, stepped up and planned a morning of activities.
The girls were
split into four groups; Owls, Deer, Rabbits and Squirrels, before they began
some craft and outdoor activities designed to help them understand their place
in the world, including a cress planting session on a world map.
After break,
Year 7 regrouped for workshops in the ABC. Their first task was to create
edible wormeries, discussing the ways in which worms are vital to the ecosystem
by the way that they process soil. The girls crushed chocolate biscuits, mixed
it with chocolate mousse and then introduced jelly worms to their new habitat…
before devouring the lot! This was followed by leaf weaving, as they learned
about the importance of plants in the environment, and poster making in which
they were asked to share what they love about the world and the environment.
The last activity was a thoughtful sequence game in which the girls learned
about being kind to each other.
The educational and creative day was concluded
with a race around the ground for a team-based treasure hunt and some natural
art in the sunshine. It was a lovely day, enjoyed by all.
