Alice and Chrissy move closer to England selection
Tuesday 6 May 2014
Hockey Writers’ Club U16 Player of the Year, Alice Wills (Lower Sixth) has recently been called up to trial for the U21 England Hockey team, while her Queenswood 1st XI team-mate Chrissy Horn has been called back up into the England Under 18 National Age Group squad after impressing at the England Academy sessions.
Alice writes:
“During the Easter holidays I travelled with the squad to Lille to play in a series of three test matches against the U21 French team. We won two games
and lost one. On the last weekend of April, I travelled to Cardiff to play the Welsh national team, who will be competing at the Commonwealth
Games this coming summer. Again, we played three matches, winning one,
losing one and drawing one.
“This has been a fantastic experience for me and a steep learning curve.
At the moment, the U21s are still being assessed before they make their
final selection for the squad, who after a summer of training and
matches abroad are competing in the Junior European
Championships in Belgium in July.
“I have just been told that I have successfully made it through the first
cut of the squad. However, it is a long process and I am very grateful
to the support I am receiving from my teachers in helping me to achieve
my academic and hockey aspirations.”
