Bridging Cultures: An Autumn Term of Triumphs at Queenswood

Wednesday 29 November 2023

As we approach the end of the Autumn Term at Queenswood, we delve deeper into the cultures that have unfolded as our international students embarked on their journey of language discovery. The first term of English as An Additional Language (EAL) lessons became a transformative experience, weaving friendships and fostering growth.

At the outset, the pupils, from diverse corners of the globe, faced the challenge of expressing themselves in a second language. Yet under the guidance of our dedicated Head of EAL, Mrs Sarah Manning, they embraced the adventure of learning. In the cosy EAL centre at Queenswood, laughter became a universal language.

The girls discovered the power of storytelling and sharing narratives. As the first term progresses, they are blossoming into confident communicators and friendships forged in the classroom have become the cornerstone of their language development. Whether it is discussing literature, science, or sharing stories from their homelands, the EAL classroom has become a sanctuary for cultural exchange.

The first term of EAL lessons at Queenswood have become more than a linguistic journey. The international girls are emerging not only with improved English skills but also with a shared sense of belonging, making Queenswood truly a home away from home.
