Chapel Highlights: Head Girls’ Pitches and Culture Society

Thursday 16 March 2023

This week in Chapel, the talks were led by Sixth Form students.

On Monday, five Year 12 students – Sophie A, Sophia E, Vivie F, Willow H and Elizabeth J – gave impressively confident and compelling speeches outlining why they hope to be selected as next year’s Head Girl.

On Wednesday, Konyinsola S, Tanya D and Sophia M (Year 13) gave details of the newly founded Culture Society, and announced a week of cultural celebrations that will take place after Easter.

Continuing with this term's message of being an upstander, they also shared a wonderful story of a teacher taking a fish in a jar to her classroom. The teacher took the fish out of the jar and excused herself. Seeing the fish desperate to breathe, the students were unsure of what they should do. Two minutes later, one student carefully placed the gasping fish back into the jar. Although the fish could have actually survived for 15 minutes, returning it to the jar was the right thing to do. Coming back into the classroom, the teacher addressed her class about what it means to be an upstander.

The hymns were two Queenswood favourites: ‘Give Me Joy in My Heart’ and ‘One More Step Along the World I Go’.
