Christmas Greetings from Miss Caroline Noone, Head of UK Admissions
Thursday 5 December 2024
Dear Friends
The festive season is upon us, and as we approach the end of term, it's truly heartwarming to reflect on all our students have achieved over the last twelve weeks, how they have supported each other and given back to the wider community.
Our newest Queenswoodians, the Year 7 students, have embraced everything the school has to offer with great enthusiasm. They settled in remarkably quickly, forming strong friendships during their bonding trip to Devon. They’ve engaged fully in their lessons and are making the most of the two hundred and twenty clubs available each week, enriching their school experience with curiosity and excitement.
The girls have excelled across the board this term. In their academic studies, they eagerly participated in events such as Maths Week England and European Day of Languages. Meanwhile, our Sixth Form Politics students broadened their horizons by attending an insightful lecture day focussing on American politics at the British Museum and a talk hosted by the Royal Society of Biology at the Natural History Museum.
In sport, our teams showcased exceptional teamwork and perseverance, reaching regional finals across various disciplines. A standout achievement was our U15 tennis team’s remarkable performance, securing a historic third consecutive victory at the LTA National Finals—a testament to their skill and dedication.
We raised the rafters at our uplifting St Cecilia’s Concert, held in support of Isabel Hospice, and the Drama and Music Departments joined forces to deliver a dazzling production of Billy Elliot, performed over three nights in our state-of-the-art performance venue, the Clarissa Farr Theatre.
Our community initiatives saw students passionately supporting local charities, including Knebworth Food Bank, Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice, and Operation Christmas Child. Their efforts not only provided valuable support to these organisations but also fostered a deeper understanding of social responsibility and the importance of giving back to the wider community.
A particular highlight for the Admissions Team this term was welcoming one hundred and forty candidates to our two 11+ assessment days. Your pupils demonstrated an abundance of Queenswood qualities - curiosity, creativity, resilience, and courage - and were a true credit to the outstanding guidance and values you have instilled in them. Well done girls!
Looking ahead to 2025, we’re delighted to invite your families to visit Queenswood for an Open Morning or individual tour. You’ll also receive invitations to our spectacular Queenswood Dance Show, and after Easter, we’ll be offering engaging taster lessons for Year 5 students—a wonderful opportunity to experience life as a Queenswood pupil firsthand.
As ever, we thank you for your continued partnership, and wish you all a very Happy Christmas.
Best wishes
Caroline
