Coronation Celebrations: A Feast Fit For a King!
Friday 5 May 2023
The Dining Room was bedecked in glorious red, white and blue on Friday, as the School celebrated the Coronation of King Charles III with a scrumptious party lunch. Our fantastic Catering team served a quintessentially British menu including fish and chips and a garden party cream tea, all of which was eagerly devoured by the pupils!
The party continued with a Coronation quiz hosted by Mr Daughton, and we all enjoyed a singalong to the official Spotify Coronation playlist.
We extend our grateful thanks to Mr Daughton and the Catering, Maintenance, Estates and Admissions teams, who made the celebrations so special. Here are some images capturing this most memorable day.
The boarding houses celebrated the Coronation with a display of homemade bunting and a Design Your Own Crown Competition, which was won by Poppy F and Siena F (Year 9), who created this very fetching ‘Q Queens’ design.

This anonymous poem, and the accompanying sketch, were published in the 1953 edition of the Queenswoodian magazine, on the occasion of the coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
THE CORONATION
The Cathedral is lighted,
The choirboys are seen;
And the people are standing
To welcome the Queen.
She walks to the altar
In solemn procession;
Her head is held high,
Her step does not falter.
The organ is swelling,
The oak studded beams
Have watched for ages
The crowning of Queens.
