Coronation Fun On Your Doorstep…
Thursday 4 May 2023
King Charles III's Coronation is here and it's going to be quite a party! If you are happy to brave the crowds, then London is the place to be, but there are also lots of fun activities planned outside of the Capital. Here are our suggestions for some Coronation fun over the bank holiday weekend.
Why not mark the King's Coronation in style and indulge in a quintessentially British afternoon tea on board a classic Routemaster bus, whilst touring the majestic sights of London? With delicate finger sandwiches and Royal scones topped with clotted cream and jam, this is a bank holiday treat fit for a King! Click here for more details.
Get your royal wave ready for Battersea Power Station's Coronation party this weekend. There will be big screens in Power Station Park, so you can watch the Coronation and procession with a picnic or takeout from one of the many bars and restaurants, and there will also be live music and bank holiday discounts to be enjoyed in the Station's many shops.
If you want to avoid the big smoke, you can watch the Coronation proceedings live from inside St. Albans Cathedral on Saturday from 10am. This will be followed by a 'bring your own lunch' and cash bar. The Cathedral Choir will sing evensong at 5pm.
On Sunday, why not join in a local community effort and join the Big Help Out? Thousands of organisations are planning events - if you are 16+ you can even sign up to muck out the elephant house at Whipsnade Zoo!
If staying at home is more your thing, then you might like to try baking the official dish of this auspicious occasion - The King and The Queen Consort's Coronation Quiche. Here is a video from the royal palace bakers with instructions on how to bake your own.
