Easter Holiday Fun On Your Doorstep…
Friday 25 March 2022
After a lively term crammed full of engagement and achievement for our pupils, the Easter holidays lie gloriously ahead. Our students in exam years will be busy revising, but we do hope they also take time to enjoy some holiday fun respite.
We have combined our two features Weekend Fun and On Your Doorstep to bring you suggestions of local activities you may wish to enjoy over the Easter break.
Wishing you all a very happy Easter holiday!
Easter would not be complete without an egg hunt and there are plenty on offer in our local area. At RSPB nature reserve Rye Meads in Hoddesdon, you can hunt for Easter eggs and also learn everything you need to know about bird eggs too.
The National Trust also have lots of Easter activities planned. At a number of their locations you can enjoy a leisurely Easter trail-walk before collecting your Rainforest Alliance chocolate egg when you finish. Click here for more details.
Harpenden Common will be home once again to the Easter Fun Fair from Thursday 14 April to Monday 18 April. There will be exciting rides for all ages and stands selling refreshments. Hold tight!
Have you ever wondered what Zeus would be like in 2022? Would Medusa be on TikTok? What if Poseidon was a leading climate activist?
Join the Trestle Theatre Company in Saint Albans on 6 April for a drama workshop for young people age 11-16 and bring these mythological characters into the modern age. For more information and to book a place click here.
For fresh air and fun exercise, why not take a trip to Willen Lakes this holiday. Situated close to Junction 14 of the M1, activities available include open water swimming, paddle sports, wakeboarding, windsurfing and high ropes.
You can also hire mountain bikes or a Quad Cycle for four and either take a gentle ride along the waterside or challenge yourself to go around the lakes! To sustain you, maybe grab an award winning pizza from ‘A Pizza This’ on your way round.
Finally if you are heading into London, the Capital's churches and cathedrals including Westminster Abbey, Saint Paul's and Saint-Martin-in-the-Fields, will welcome visitors to worship throughout Holy Week and Easter. Daily services are free to attend and include morning prayer, holy communion, sung eucharist and evensong.
There will also be performances of Handel's Messiah at Saint Paul's on 30 March and at the Royal Albert Hall on Good Friday.
