Emma’s Alternative Energy Exhibited at the NEC

Monday 23 March 2015

Queenswood Scientist Emma Poppleton (Lower Sixth) was invited to exhibit at the ‘Big Bang’ Science Fair at the NEC in Birmingham on Saturday 14 March 2015. She was a shortlisted finalist in the Talent 2030 National Engineering Competition for Girls, thanks to her inspirational investigative and practical work on alternative energy sources, which she named ‘Waste to Wanted’.

With the help of Sylvia Zhang (Upper Sixth) and Head of Science Mrs Therese Davidson, Emma constructed a microbial fuel cell using sludge from Queenswood’s pond, and was able to generate several volts of electricity.
