Almost every girl in the Lower and Middle Schools was involved, either acting on stage, playing in the band, designing costumes, make-up and props, operating the sound and lighting desks, or providing vital support backstage. Each House met the challenge of adapting an existing musical theatre show or film script into a twenty-minute production – the girls themselves were responsible for casting, direction, choreography and musical arrangements. They gained an invaluable insight into the pressures of creating live theatre, and learned a great deal about managing large casts and co-ordinating rehearsal schedules alongside their busy academic programmes.

Our esteemed adjudicator, the West End star Julie Atherton, had the unenviable task of choosing individual and group winners in a range of categories:

  • Best Choreography – Clapham North (Saving Mr Banks)
  • Best Music – Waller (Annie)
  • Best Drama – Clapham South – (Hairspray)
  • Most Professional Production – Hartley (Mamma Mia!)

The inaugural House Performing Arts Cup was presented to Clapham North for Saving Mr Banks.

Individual awards went to:

  • Eleanor Grant (Year 10) – Donna in Mamma Mia!
  • Scarlet Gerry-Churchhouse (Year 7) – Sophie in Mamma Mia!
  • Gabby Mazzoni (Year 10) – Walt Disney in Saving Mr Banks
  • Lynelle Kisuule (Year 8) for an extremely charismatic performance in Saving Mr Banks
  • Ceska Wyatt (Year 11) – Penny in Hairspray
  • Isobel Beynon (Year 11) – Link in Hairspray
  • Emily Jin (Year 11) for her exceptional musicianship in Annie

Many congratulations to all the girls involved – an extremely high standard has been set for Queenswood’s House Performing Arts Competition.
