Fabulous House Drama Competition: TV’s Carrie Grant awards prizes

Sunday 2 February 2014

Far from being a lightweight diversion from the serious business of exam preparation, the biennial Queenswood House Drama Competition is
actually an awesome test of invaluable life skills. The challenge: to
collaborate with your peers to script, cast, direct, design, costume,
score, light and promote a theatrical production. Involve the entire
House – but don’t overrun your twenty minute slot.

The girls to whom this responsibility fell this year endured a frantic but unforgettable week of rehearsal, culminating in a performance in front of a packed audience in the Clarissa Farr Theatre on the afternoon of Sunday 2 February. Our adjudicators were Carrie Grant (The One Show, Comic Relief, Fame Academy, Carrie and David’s Pop Shop), who has worked with too many stars to mention, and her daughter Olivia (OQ), currently training as an actor at Guildhall.

Clapham North, with their ingeniously post-modern adaptation of a selection of ‘Grimm Tales’, were crowned winners.

The awards for best actress were allocated as follows:

  • Molly Munyard – Clapham North – Grimm Tales
  • Aoife Morgan Jones – Clapham South – The Woman in Black
  • Georgia Dallas – Hartley – Snow White
  • Eva and Grace Mee (joint) – Waller – Cinderella

The winning team

Carrie and Olivia were extremely impressed by the standard of production, and thanked Queenswood for making them feel welcome and valued.
