Half-Term Fun On Your Doorstep…

Friday 11 February 2022

This week we are combining our two weekly features Weekend Fun and On Your Doorstep to bring you suggestions of fun, local activities you may wish to enjoy over the half-term break.

Wishing you all a very happy half-term!

Head to the Olympic Park next week for some hair-raising fun and brave the world's tallest and longest tunnel slide. The Slide at the ArcelorMittal Orbit twists and turns 12 times, including a tight corkscrew section named the ‘bettfeder’ – after the German word for ‘bedspring.’ The Slide ends with a 50 metre straight run to the ground. In the exhilarating 40-second trip, riders are expected to hit speeds of up to 15 miles per hour! You can book online here.

Keen artists visiting the National Gallery next week, may wish to pop in to their Sketching Salon especially set up for the school holidays. Artist Marc Woodhead will visit the salon and share his work. The Sketching Salon will run as a 'drop-in' between 11am and 4pm on Tuesday and Wednesday and whilst there is no need to book to visit the Salon, you are required to book a gallery entry ticket. This is free and can be booked here.

For pupils aged 14+ the MARVELus nerd-culture, comedy double act - The JustUs League will be squeezing all of the MARVEL movies into an action-packed evening of laughs at South Mill Arts. You can book tickets for this acclaimed show here.

If the weather is dry, why not head to the Ashridge Estate over half-term for a wintry walk. The snowdrops are beginning to emerge and you can 'get your steps up' by climbing the Bridgewater Monument.
