Hartley win closely-fought Inter-House Debating Competition
Sunday 15 March 2020
On Friday 13 March, Queenswood’s most accomplished public speakers locked horns in the Clarissa Farr Theatre for the final of the Inter-House Debating Competition.
The motion, which could not have been more topical, was ‘This House believes that any gathering of over 100 people should be banned due to the Coronavirus COVID-19’.
It was thrilling to hear girls using their rhetorical skills to debate a matter of urgent relevance, and there were plenty of very pertinent and thought-provoking points raised on both sides of the argument.
The ultimate winners of the competition (who incidentally happened to be on the side of the proposition) were Hartley House.
Many congratulations to all eight finalists for demonstrating so decisively that debating really is ‘the sport of the mind’.
