DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD BRONZE QUALIFYING EXPEDITION
41 girls successfully
completed a two-day hike on the weekend of 27 and 28 September. They trekked
from Newgate Street village to Hertford Camp Ground on the Saturday, where they
over-nighted. The return on Sunday to the start point was in very warm weather
for September.
The
navigation and camping skills of this group are amongst the best that Mr
Sinclair, D of E Co-ordinator, has ever encountered, without a single girl getting
lost over the weekend. The staff team of ten enjoyed the expedition, and, with
the hike completed by 2.30pm, the mandatory de-briefings and presentations from
each hiking group were all over by 3.30pm.
Highlights
of the presentations this year included a DofE Song, which had been rehearsed during
the expedition and was accompanied on the ukulele, as well as innovative ways
of profiling people, animals and flowers encountered along the pathways.
