Hockey – County Champions
Wednesday 2 October 2013
Following success at the Kings Canterbury 1st Xl tournament, the team approached the U18 County tournament on 1 October with confidence. We had a tough pool and were drawn against Bishops Stortford and Hitchin. |
The first match against Stortford was tough and physical and despite having chances on goal, neither team could find the back of the net and the game ended in a 0-0 draw. Against Hitchin, Q dominated the game and had all the possession. We won several penalty corners and scored some spectacular field goals, winning the game 5-0 with goals from Tilly Stone-Wilson, Alice Wills and Meg Crowson. This meant we won our pool on goal difference and moved through to the semi-finals in the best position.
Parmiters were runners up in their group but were not an easy team to beat. Q went 1-0 down before half time after getting off to a slow start, but after a quick team talk, determination and great teamwork brought on a brilliant team performance and a 3-1 win, with goals from Meg Crowson and Alice Wills.
We met Bishops Stortford in the final but it was nothing like the first match of the day – Q were full of energy and dominated the match. A fantastic deflection on the far post by Naomi Coulson put Q 1-0 up, which was enough to maintain the title of County Champions and qualify for the East Prelims on 7 November.
