Junior Academic Scholars: The Grant Museum of Zoology and Scrolling Addictions
Thursday 27 February 2025
FLORENCE H, YEAR 9
In the Junior Academic Scholars meeting on Tuesday 25 February, we listened to two amazing presentations.
The first one was about the Grant Museum of Zoology, given by Sayo S (Year 8). She explained to us about many examples of taxidermy, skeletons, and more contained in the museum. She also told us about her aspirations to become a vet, and how she hoped to achieve this. It was really inspiring to hear about it! Finally, we saw some of the beautiful digital art that Sayo made to represent her passion for animals.
Next, Amelia R (Year 7) explained the science behind scrolling addictions. This was a really fascinating topic. Dopamine is released when you start to scroll, and suddenly you are sucked into a black hole with no return. You experience dopamine in large and quick shocks, therefore reducing your patience levels and creating a negative impact. To get out of the habit, you could find a new hobby, such as drawing, or make sure you set a time for when to stop. Try to resist getting distracted and make sure you leave enough time for schoolwork!
