Junior Hockey Tour to Barcelona
Tuesday 8 November 2016
During the first week of the October half term 50Queenswood pupils and staff were lucky enough to take part in the annual Hockey
tour to Barcelona.
The trip is always exhausting: a great mix
of culture and sport, with the focus clearly on developing Queenswood’s junior
hockey players. A term’s work is covered
in a short space of time and the progress of the players is always incredible.
The girls are pushed hard with three-hour training sessions and matches each
evening.
The five days were intense and by the end
of the trip everyone was exhausted! The
tour party managed to pack in so much: 10 training hours, a tournament,
six fixtures, a visit to the Olympic museum and stadium, Gaudi Cathederal, Las
Ramblas, the marina and beach, a cable car ride, theme park and (in keeping
with the Q tradition) a little retail therapy – not to mention meeting a
certain Lionel Messi!
Girls
played and trained with Olympic Dutch Gold medalist Sander Van der Weide
and some of the best coaches working in Spain at the Polo Club, Olympic Stadium
and the world famous Egara club. The tour story can be followed on Queenswood
Sport Twitter and Instagram.
