Kalli Joins the National Youth Orchestra
Thursday 5 October 2023
We are thrilled to report that cellist and Queenswood Music Scholar Kalli Z (Year 10) has won a place in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.
This is a superlative achievement. The NYO, known in the music industry as ‘the world’s greatest orchestra of teenagers’, comprises just 160 players, and competition for places is fierce.
Kalli is surprised and delighted by her success; she only auditioned for the experience, hoping to win a place when she is older, so to be accepted at her first attempt really is a testament to her remarkable musicianship.
Membership of the NYO is a considerable commitment – she will be involved for 40 days during the coming year.
Here is a video of Kalli in action, playing the first movement of Elgar’s Cello Concerto.
