Leah's Recipe Suggestion: Hamantaschen Cookies to Celebrate Purim

This weekend, Jewish people from all over the world will be celebrating the festival of Purim. As part of their celebrations, they will enjoy traditional Hamantaschen cookies, a delicious Purim treat. Leah G (Year 7), a member of our Newsletter Club, has shared her favourite Hamantaschen recipe for you to try at home, and for those who prefer to watch an instructional video, we have included an easy-to-follow recipe from The Cooking Foodie.

LEAH'S RECIPE

Ingredients
3 cups of plain flour
1 tsp baking powder
2/3 cups of butter or margarine
1 cup sugar
3 eggs
2 tbsp honey
your chosen filling (preserves or chocolate chips are tasty!)

Method
STEP 1
Sift flour and baking powder

STEP 2
Cream butter and add sugar gradually

STEP 3
Add honey and blend well

STEP 4
Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition

STEP 5
Fold in the dry ingredients

STEP 6
Chill dough for an hour or so

STEP 7
Roll out chilled dough to a quarter-inch thick

STEP 8
Cut out 2-inch rounds

STEP 9
Spoon filling into center and fold into traingle shape

STEP 10
Place on a greased baking sheet and bake in the oven on 180 degrees Celsius for 15-25 minutes.
