Lunar New Year Celebrations: Welcome to the Year of the Snake

Friday 31 January 2025

We have been celebrating Lunar New Year at Queenswood this week, with a packed programme of events to mark the beginning of the Year of the Snake.

On Wednesday, the EAL department filled the Terrace Room with a wide range of traditional activities, including calligraphy writing, mahjong, fortune telling and arrow throwing. Pupils had the chance to share red envelopes, write spring couplets and practise speaking new year blessings. Meanwhile the Catering Department treated us to their legendary Chinese banquet.

In Mymwood, there were tea-drinking ceremonies, while in Trew Elicia (Year 8) and friends gave a masterclass in dumpling-making.

Finally, on Friday there was a whole-school treasure hunt, with pupils searching the campus for ‘fu’ characters, traditional symbols of good fortune.

We’d like to wish everyone Xīn Nián Kuài Lè! 新年快乐! (Happy New Year!)
