Queenswood School is delighted to announce the appointment of Mrs Joanna Cameron, BSc Hons, as Principal, with effect from 1 September 2016.

Mrs Cameron is currently sole Deputy Head at Ipswich High School for Girls. Prior to this she was a key member of the Senior Leadership Team at St Gabriel’s Independent Day School in Newbury. She began her teaching career as a Science teacher, specialising in Biology, at St Mary’s, Wantage, where she quickly progressed to become Head of the Science Department.

Mrs Cameron commented: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining Queenswood and am looking forward to working closely with the pupils, parents and staff of this vibrant and dynamic community.”

A graduate of the University of Surrey (St Mary’s College) with an honours degree in Environmental Science, for the past 18 years Mrs Cameron has worked almost exclusively in all girls’ schools. She has a deep understanding and appreciation of the unique opportunities that single sex education offers, and is an advocate for the supportive environment of an integrated community such as Queenswood.

“The appointment was made from a very strong field of applicants after a rigorous process,” said Mr Ed Sautter, Chair of Governors. “Joanna’s experience of all girls’ education in both the day and boarding environment, as well as her understanding of, and commitment to, the ethos of Queenswood, make her ideally placed to take the School through the next exciting phase of its development. We also take this opportunity to acknowledge Pauline Edgar’s huge contribution to the School during her leadership, characterised by excellent academic and co-curricular achievement, as well as outstanding pastoral care.”

Beyond the classroom, in her spare time Mrs Cameron is a keen sportswoman, with a passion for hockey, running and equestrianism.
