Queenswood is an extraordinary place with extraordinary people. It would be our privilege to educate your daughters here.

Queenswood are District Cross-Country Champions

Thursday 14 November 2013

The annual District Cross Country was held on 13November in the grounds of Queenswood on a gloriously sunny but cold autumn
day.  The course looked fantastic and, on
the whole, held up well over the nine races, providing an exciting and challenging
course for all competitors.  This is all
thanks to the hard work of our coach and ground keeper, Steve White.

Queenswood fielded very strong teams this year and we had
many girls running as ‘guest runners’, which demonstrates the enthusiasm of
Queenswood girls for Cross Country and the desire to ‘get involved’.

It gives me great pleasure to announce that all teams, from Year 7 to Lower Sixth, performed brilliantly and we were deservedly crowned overall
District Champions! Well done girls, we
are all hugely proud of you.

A breakdown of the results:

Year 7

The Year 7 team came 4th with an
outstanding performance from Alexis Peet, the team captain, who achieved 2nd
position.

Year 8

The Year 8 team came 2nd with Ellie Hancock being
the highest placed Queenswoodian, in 8th postion.  The rest of the team came high up the field
in a tight bunch with Chloe Munro, Lara Sikka, and Megan Patterson scoring for
the team in 10th, 12th and 14th position
respectively.

Year 9

The Year 9 team faced really strong opposition yet won their
event convincingly with Sara Jacob taking first position overall.  Sara was hotly pursued around the course by
Jess Hurley, who took 3rd place and Olivia Peet who came 5th.  Catryn Langley was not far behind and took 9th
position with a storming finish.

Senior Section

It was extremely pleasing this year that we were able to
field two very strong teams in the senior section.  It is wonderful that the older girls still
have a desire to train on a regular basis and compete at every level – it is not an
easy task balancing this with the demands of academic life at the school, which
is a real credit to the girls. The girls ran out of their socks to take the title of Senior
Girls’ District Champions.  They won the
event convincingly with exceptional performances from Rebecca Hurley, who took
first place, Megan Crowson in 3rd
place, Emily Small 4th, Lauren McBride 6th and Georgia
Chambers in 7th place.  I
would like to congratulate all the other girls in the senior team for being
such excellent role models to the younger girls: Chrissy Horn, Bethan Langley,
Natasha Carter, Daniella Rocca, Victoria Mangan, Jessica Goldie and Amber
Preston – you were brilliant!

I would also like to thank Steve White and Julia Curtin for
their absolute commitment in training the girls, and to Rebecca Hurley who has
done a sterling job as overall Cross Country Captain. Many, many thanks.
