Queenswood is an extraordinary place with extraordinary people. It would be our privilege to educate your daughters here.

Queenswood at Amnesty International Action Centre

Thursday 9 March 2017

On Wednesday 8 March, Year 9 Music students visited the Amnesty UK Action Centre in London. The girls were introduced to the work that Amnesty International does globally to raise awareness about Human Rights abuse, and explored the role that music plays in communicating powerful messages.

In the afternoon they attended a workshop on free and guided writing, aimed at helping the girls write lyrics and be creative and imaginative with the use of words and poems.

This trip is linked to the Queenwood Year 9 Music Curriculum, in which we explore the genre of Protest Songs. In the weeks ahead, the girls will be tasked with composing their own Protest Song and the final draft will be performed ‘live’ and recorded. The shortlisted items will be judged by an Amnesty team representative to crown this year’s winner of our songwriting competition.

In recent years Queenswood students have enjoyed great success in the Amnesty International competition. Our students were outright winners in 2014, while in 2016 two songs were featured in the top three.
