Queenswood DT Mini-Enterprise Competition 2015

Monday 27 April 2015

Queenswood's Mini-Enterprise Competition 2015 ws won by Dulce Vida, who produced a range of dream catchers

The annual Mini-Enterprise competition is run by Ms Archer and Mrs Penn in the DT department as part of the
Year 9 DT curriculum. It is a whole-class, whole term exercise which encourages
pupils to develop teamwork, awareness of the commercial world and to practice
design and making skills.

The brief
was to devise, design and make a product for a specified target market within a
given budget.  They were given completely free choice in the type of product and
the materials they used. They were assessed on Design, Making, Finance,
Marketing and use of ICT. Judges were drawn from Queenswood staff and from industry and university.

The winners were a company calling themselves Dulce Vida. Their product was a range of dream
catchers, and they were commended for their market research as well as their making
of the product. Mrs Edgar awarded the cup at the end of the evening and a
good time was had by all!

Products manufactured and marketed included furry beanbags, scented candles, characterful phone cases, dream catchers, floor cleaning slippers, a positive self image beauty box, a pillow incorporating an MP3 player, and floor-cleaning sheep-themed slippers.
