Queenswood Fave Saves: Student Railcards
Friday 16 September 2022
At Queenswood, we believe that financial discipline is an important skill for young people to learn and that gaining an understanding of the value of money and conscious spending will help our students become more independent and university-ready.
Over the coming weeks, we will share some links to money-saving opportunities which we hope our pupils will find useful. Below you can find details of how students can make substantial savings on rail travel.
16-17 Saver Railcard
The 16-17 Saver gives 50% off Standard Anytime, Standard Off-Peak, Standard Advance and Season tickets for travel at any time of the day. The 16-17 Saver costs £30 and is valid for one year or until your 18th birthday, whichever comes first.
After purchasing the Saver, you can download it to your phone with the Railcard app or keep it in your purse to get half price tickets across the National Rail network (excluding travel on ScotRail and Caledonian Sleeper services).
16-25 Railcard
Our Upper Sixth students who have turned 18 may wish to choose the 16-25 Railcard, which they can continue to use when they move on to university.
The 1 year card costs £30 or pupils can choose the 3 year card for £70. This Railcard is aimed at leisure travel and gives 1/3 off Standard Anytime and Standard Off-Peak tickets, as well as Standard and First Class Advance tickets. A £12 minimum fare applies to journeys starting between 4:30am and 10:00am on weekdays. The 16-25 Railcard discount does not apply to Season tickets.
