Queenswood Netball teams reach finals of District Leagues
Sunday 8 March 2015
We are thrilled with the recent successes of Queenswood’s netball players. Five teams reached the semi-finals of the district league in their age group, and two have progressed to the finals.
The U12 teams have been playing extremely good netball all season, and both teams were drawn away against Chancellors, who are very strong at all ages. The U12a match, captained for Queenswood by Hannah Kilpatrick, was fiercely contested with the score tied at 13-13 after all four quarters. The game went to extra time, an additional two and a half minutes each way. Queenswood fought hard but Chancellors scored once in both halves, resulting in a loss of 15-13. Player of the match was Ella Higgens. All players are congratulated on an excellent season.

The U12b team, captained by Lexi Mackay, put out a sterling performance and won the match 10-8, progressing through to the district league final. The squad have trained consistently well all season and this was displayed by their performance. Player of the match was Eleanor Blakemore. We wish them all good luck for the final!

The U13a team were drawn against Bishops Hatfield for their semi-final. The commitment of these girls has been second to none – they have even requested additional practices. The team, captained by Shaka Egbo, were triumphant 29-1, with some fabulous shooting from Gabriella Murray-Panayiotou and Jasmine Preko, and are all looking forward to playing in the final. We wish them every success.

Both the U14a and U16a were drawn against Chancellors, with all girls knowing these would be tough matches. However this did not put them off and both teams contested well. The U14a started off well, winning the first quarter 6-4. Over the next three quarters, Chancellors stepped up their game and although the Queenswood girls never gave up, they eventually lost the match 21-13. Player of the match was deservedly awarded to Tomisin Ibikunle.

The U16a team, most of whom at the start of the season hadn’t played netball since year 7, were extremely happy to have reached the semi-finals. The team have worked hard over the season to try and quicken the pace of their game to keep up with other schools. For the semi-final, the team were without usual starter Ellegrace Ofosu-Bossman, who broke a finger mid-week. The girls gave Chancellors a good game, with some strong defending from Adobea Addo-Ashong. The score remained close throughout, but with Queenswood losing the final quarter, the result was a loss of 14-10. Player of the match went to Sophie Bould for consistently shooting well. Squad: Maddy Davies (Capt), Sophie Bould, Emma Kelly, Grace Mee, Adobea Addo-Ashong, Scarlet Ward, Olivia Baines and Lucy Fishpool.
