Queenswood Parent Awarded DBE
Thursday 17 March 2022
We were delighted to learn that former Queenswood parent Dr Vivienne Cox CBE was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in the Queen's recent New Year's Honours List.
Dame Vivienne’s daughter Hannah, now an OQ, was Head Girl at Queenswood before she left to study Politics and International Relations at Bristol University in 2021.
Dame Vivienne was awarded this prestigious honour for her work including relationships, sustainability and diversity in the workplace, a fuller explanation of which can be found below.
We send Dame Vivienne and her family our warmest congratulations as they celebrate this remarkable achievement.
As an Independent Non-Executive Director at Glaxo-Smith Kline (GSK), Vivienne
Cox has helped test, inform and shape the environmental, social and governance
agenda, maximising the organisation’s environmental and societal impact. Her
outreach to GSK’s employees and her discussion of the CEO's ambition to improve
diversity and inclusion helped the publication of targets for female and ethnically
diverse representation in senior roles and also greater transparency around the ethnic
representation of GSK’s workforce.
She is also Chair of the Board of the Rosalind Franklin Institute - which has already made some very significant scientific breakthroughs, including the development of potential therapeutics against COVID-19, the shift in chemistry from test tube to cell and construction of first of their kind instruments that will lead to the new field of atomic level pathology. She is also patron of the St Francis Hospice in Berkhamsted.
