Queenswood Pays Tribute to the Fallen at Moving Service of Remembrance

Thursday 17 November 2022

Governors, parents, pupils and staff came together for a deeply moving Service of Remembrance in the Chapel on Sunday 13 November.

The Lower School Chamber Choir performed a haunting vocal arrangement of the poem ‘In Flanders Fields’, which was also recited by Deputy Head Girl, Olivia T. Sofia M (Head Girl) and Moni O (Deputy Head Girl) read passages from the Old and New Testaments, and Senior Chapel Steward Sienna M led the congregation in prayer.

Rev’d Vindra’s sermon told the tragic story of Noor Inayat Khan, the first British Muslim spy. She was born in Moscow in 1914 and died at Dachau concentration camp aged just 30, after a life of astonishing service and sacrifice.

She also reflected on the line from the Beatitudes – ‘Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.’ Quoting from the hymn ‘Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me,’ Rev'd Vindra concluded: ‘What better way to remember the sacrifice of those who gave so much for us. We hope and pray for a world of justice, mercy and peace, and we will remember them.’
