We are extremely proud to report that Queenswood won the U16 Regional Badminton finals on 21 March. For the first time in the school’s history, we have qualified for the national finals in Milton Keynes on May 6.

The National Schools Badminton competition is the largest school sport competition and we are extremely honoured to be one of the remaining four teams in the competition.

The team was led by captain Lia DiGesaro, who won all of her matches in both singles and doubles. Helen Cheung, our other singles player also played well to chalk up two great victories under huge pressure. Overall, the team played some excellent tactical badminton to progress to the final.

We were level at 1-1 after the singles but our doubles specialists Jess Hawes and Lucy Kelly played a great match to put us 2-1 up. With two doubles matches to go it was becoming quite stressful; we lost the first but with captain Lia back in action alongside Jess the final was a convincing win and history was made!
