Queenswood’s Riding Team: Jumping for Joy at Hickstead

Friday 9 June 2023

MRS JANE ENGESTROM, TEAM MANAGER

Four members of Queenswood’s Riding Squad competed at the National Schools Equestrian Association Championships at Hickstead over the last weekend of May.

Amy S (Year 8) was at Hickstead for all four days of the competition (Friday to Monday), having qualified individually in three classes and as part of a Q team in a fourth class. She also competed in a warm up class on arrival on Friday. Her pony, Auther, was a complete star and produced four clear rounds and one four fault round. The classes that she was in were enormous.

She came 12th individually in the 70/75cm Show Jumping Championship (and 28th out the 90 total entries made up of teams and individuals). She also came 28th out of 118 entries in the 80/85cm Show Jumping class, which was out of the placings but an incredible achievement. She was 30th out of 79 individual entries in her 80 Eventers Challenge class and 67th overall out of the 229 total team and individual entries!

Willow H (Year 12) competed in the 100/105 Championship class on Sunday and I am delighted to report that she came 3rd individually with a speedy clear round on her horse, Kit Kat. She was 8th out of the 59 total team and individual entries.

Elina S S, Amelie M and Amy S (all Year 8) jumped in the 80/85 Championship class on Monday but it was sadly not their day. The atmosphere is huge at the Championships and the classes have hundreds of competitors so a big well done to them for getting there and being part of it all.

Amelie M also jumped a clear round in the 70/75 SJ Qualifier class to place 15th out of 31 entries. Well done, Amelie.

I would like to say a massive thank you to all of the girls and their supporters – it takes a lot of hard work and time to travel to, and compete at, these kind of events. All of their efforts are really appreciated, and I am very proud of them all.
