Queenswood’s U14a Netball Team Reach District Finals
Wednesday 18 March 2015
The U14a team travelled to Stanborough School for the annual district tournament on 17 March. Drawn into Pool A, Queenswood faced Yavneh, Chancellors and Bishops Hatfield.
In the first match, against Yavneh, the Queenswood girls started strong. The play down the court was fast-paced and the accuracy of shooting from GA Marina Baldwin was on point. Queenswood won 15-4. The second match was against a very solid team from Chancellors. The Queenswood girls battled hard but lost the match 15-5. The final group match against Bishops Hatfield was a good test. The play was end to end, but with some outstanding intercepts from GK Tomisin Ibikunle, Q were able to turn the play over. Final score was a Queenswood win 13-8, which meant the girls progressed as group runners-up.
The semi-final was against Dame Alice Owens, who were group winners of Pool B. The Q girls couldn’t have done more in the first half with Annie Roberts consistently working hard to win the ball back, and were leading 8-3 at the break. This was however a game of two halves, with DAO stepping up their game, scoring from turnovers. The final whistle blew, and the scores were checked. An 11-10 win to Queenswood – certainly a nail-biting semi-final.
Queenswood met Chancellors again in the final, who had convincingly won all their games. The Q girls continued to work hard but the strength and composure of the Chancellors team were second to none. The final score was a loss of 13-3.
Congratulations to all girls on reaching the final!
