Queenswood’s Young Scientists Learn the Theory of Flight
Monday 20 April 2015
As our final event to celebrate National Science Week we were pleased to welcome Charlotte Joyce who gave a talk and workshop
presentation to Year 7 on the ‘Theory of Flight’.
Charlotte is a former winner
of the Institute of Engineering and Technology Young Woman Engineer of the Year
who began her career as an engineer in the Armed Forces. She is now a lecturer
in aeronautical engineering and she gave a fascinating talk to Year 7 explaining
the forces involved in flight and giving them the opportunity to build models
ans test their designs.
Some of the comments from the girls:
- ‘It was amazing!
It was full of information which I never knew. I guess I can now call myself a
mini junior engineer. I enjoyed it so much. She made it really fun and
enjoyable. I would like to do something like it again’. (Ella) - ‘I enjoyed
making aeroplanes and changing them around to make them fly better’ (Chloe)
‘I enjoyed learning about her life. I loved learning about the forces needed to
be able to fly and what was needed to stay in the air’ (Alina)- ‘I think she
was an inspirational woman and she was friendly and exciting’ (Hannah)
